Emmett Rufus Litke was born in Council Grove, Morris County, Kansas on April 10, 1903. The 13th child of John and Anna Stegman Litke. Emmett had 7 brothers and 5 sisters (Anna, John, Mary, Minnie, Fred, Florence, Martin, sarah, Edward, David, Lewis and Henry). German was spoken in the home.

Emmett didn't start school until the third grade and graduated with the Council Grove High School class of 1923.

On July 28th 1926 Emmett married Ethel Marie Fisher also a 1923 Council Grove High School Graduate. Two sons were born in Marion, Indiana (Robert Emmett, born in 1927 and Ronald Dean, born in 1931). Somtime in the 1930's while living in Virgil, Kansas Emmett, allegedly, got into some trouble with the law (it had something to do with automobiles - his passion - he sold Chevy automobiles or parts??). To avoid jail time Emmett left town without a trace between 1934 - 1936. Did he leave with another woman??? did he go to Mexico to avoid the law and change his name??? Or, was he killed and burned in a myserious unexplained house fire by the Mob??? Lot's of rumors, several theories and many unanswered questions.

Emmett had a rare neuralgic disorder now known as "Shaky Leg Syndrome" Or "Charcot-Marie-Tooth disorder", we refer to this as "Litke Legs". If a Person has the disorder their children have a 50/50 chance of also having it.

If a child has it, the parent had to have it. Robert Emmett, Emmett Rufus' son, has it therefore if Emmett Rufus lived To be old he would have eventually used a cane or been in a wheel chair. Often the Litkes would be shown in photos leaning on something or sitting down.

Scott Emmett Litke, son of Emmett Rufus' son Ron recently opened Emmett's Made Fresh drive-in in Lehi, Utah. Food made Fresh to order seemed to have vanished in the recent past almost like Emmett Rufus...without a trace.

Now it's back.
